The trail starts on a flat section of single track and transitions into a short, but tough climb on a rocky substrate that is very slippery when wet. The trail is ride-able all the way to the top with no need to carry the bike.
This is a popular hiking trail; the unwritten rule in this area is to have a bell hanging from your bike to alert hikers.

Shousan is also known as Monkey Mountain.
