Mr. Nikkos is the more difficult western entrance to the Gutierrez Canyon system of trails. It starts with a steep, loose, very difficult climb with a few little technical bits to keep it interesting. Cleaning this first section can truly be a bear, and is the only part of the climb that could be considered 'black' in difficulty. Once the trail shoots off northward after you run into a "y", it gets much easier and is a easy to moderate grade that is well-traveled and fairly easy.

Do yourself a favor and climb up the Arroyo Loop East trail, or start from the other parking lot. This trail is best when descending - only very skilled (and fit) climbers will be able to clean the first couple hundred feet of this, and it won't be fun.

Coming down this, on the other hand, is one of the highlights of this little trail system.
