Murphy's Grade is a multi-use trail that runs parallel to Cold Creek and intersects with it several times. It is a great way to loop Cold Creek without climbing the gravel forest road or shuttling up to the towers. It's not a difficult climb and most of the trail has good tree coverage. Near the top there are also several small drops and some large water bars that are fun to hit coming down.

Can't say I really enjoyed this trail. It's obvious this was not a purpose-build MTB climbing trail. It's super rocky, but what I found most annoying were the many sections that are very steep, and with no switchbacks - just straight up, up, up. It's only real upside, vs the road, is that it is shaded. Still, next time I think I would just suffer on the road.
