The Nelson-Salmo Great Northern Trail provides recreation trail use on the former Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail line from Troup Junction to the Village of Salmo. This trail is designated as a multiple purpose regional trail.
The trail is also part of The Great Trail (aka Trans Canada Trail). The section from Mountain Station to Cottonwood Lake is part of the The Great Trail through route. The entire GN Trail from Troup to Salmo is considered to be a Great Trail spur.
