Using the Moonshine Gulch trail for the uphill is a better idea, then taking this trail out to Mystic Lake and returning on New World. The uphill is just too loose and steep for a good time.
If you took Moonshine, then you meet up with New World trail in a field, and you'll take a right to head out to Mystic Lake. The trail switches between single track and more like fire road throughout, but is always fun.
If you decide to take New World Gulch back, the downhill can be rowdy, and don't miss the turn that keeps you up high on the right of the drainage. Otherwise, you'll end up just walking down a stream bed. Not fun.
