Nez Perce Ridge Details
This is a tough ride along the top of a scenic ridge. It is mostly singletrack with some sections of doubletrack. The singletrack was made by offroad motorcyclists, so it has some ruts and very steep sections. The beginning of the trail is faint at times and may require some hiking. After descending a steep, loose slope along the ridge it joins a more distinct trail 1.3 km from the start. Near the south summit of the ridge the singletrack joins a doubletrack for less than 400 m, then splits off to the right at 3.2 km. At 3.6 km take the left fork to a very steep descent at 4.1 km.
As the singletrack descends steeply near the end of the ridge at 4.8 km, take a left fork (east) and contour back along the lower slopes of the ridge. When it meets the doubletrack at 5.8 km turn right (west) and descend the rough OHV trail to join the pipeline OHV road at 7.0 km near a Valve Station, which is a set of above-ground valves on the pipeline, surrounded by chainlink fence.
At the Valve Station cross the pipeline and connect to the trail Sasky West Side which continues south on the old mine road on the west slope of Saskatoon Mountain.
The singletrack can be reached via the Nez Perce Road. About 2 km before the end of the road turn east on a bushy trail along the small power line until you reach the east edge of the ridge which drops very steeply down to the Kananaskis Rd. (aka Hwy 40 or Range Road 43a). Head south on the singletrack trail which generally follows the top of the ridge.
