This is the longest and most physically challenging segment of the North Umpqua Trail.

The trail has two shorter segments: The western 7.8-mile Swiftwater portion and the 8-mile Tioga part. The Tioga Bridge delineates the border between these two portions. Both portions wind through old growth forests of Douglas-fir, hemlock, and sugar pine, with trees often over six feet in diameter. Recent fires have changed this landscape somewhat so the forest is not as lush as it once was in places.

The trail starts off as a wide, gravel covered route that changes to more true singletrack after about 1.5 miles. The trail then mixes some challenging climbs and mildly technical downhills for the next 14 or so miles. Trail surface is mostly dirt with a variety of rocky and rooty sections. There is about a half mile of dirt road included in the trail right before the Tioga Bridge. After the bridge, it is more of the same all the way to the Wright Creek Traihead. Fun riding, but pay attention!

Access Info

The Swiftwater Trailhead is the western end of the Tioga Segment. It is accessed off of Highway 138, approximately 22 miles east of Roseburg, Oregon. This segment can also be accessed by the Tioga Bridge and at the Wright Creek Trailhead

Couple trees down. Both under 8” on western side.
