The isolated and remote Nyswonger Mesa lies high above Bedrock to the south and can be accessed from Hwy 90 just west of Bedrock or from CR X 4 along LaSal Creek. The preferred route is from CR X 4 since the old two track coming down into Bedrock is VERY long and steep. Take CRX 4 downstream for less than a mile and take the first left. Follow this fun two track for about 4 miles as it goes in and out of various drainages staying on slickrock in many places. The views into LaSal Creek Canyon are fantastic. Look for a steep and rough two track as it climbs out of the canyon to the north. Follow this track all the way up to the top of the ridge where you will be looking down into the Paradox Valley. There is an old track running SE towards the west buttress of Nyswonger Mesa. As you get to the base of the cliff face work south, looking for the natural chute that will allow passage up to the mesa top. There are remains of an old wood ladder near the chute. It will take two to negotiate with bikes. Once on top, work in a SE direction on this hike a bike section. You will begin to see old two track and sage flats crossing the mesa top. Follow the two track which lace the mesa eastward coming to the NE rim and the gnarly but rideable two track back down to Hwy 90 and Bedrock.

Access Info

CR X 4 is off Hwy 90 in the LaSal Creek drainage about 5 miles from the Utah State Line.

Disclaimer

West End roads can become impassible when wet but can dry quickly. Two required to access the mesa top with bikes.
