Pay attention to this road. Not for the difficulty, but all the distractions of the area. Stop where the trail is marked, secure your bikes, then hike about 1.5 miles south to Cattail Falls, a literal hidden oasis.
Although marked on some maps, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HIKE THE OAK SPRINGS TRAIL. You can go a short distance for view, but this trail is known for rockfalls and loose scree. There are many injuries on this trail. I'd only consider doing this trail if I were an Apache being chased by the buffalo soldiers camps up Fresno Canyon (in the Big Bend State Park).
When done at Cattail Falls, the downhill ride is quick to the bottom.
Back Country permit required. Check in at Panther Junction.
The only legal mountain biking in the National Park is on four-wheel-drive roads. Don't leave the road!
