An amazing trail. Everything on this trail is rideable uphill, but you have to be strong and have a good attitude.

Once you reach the top, there is very little elevation change. There are big trees that occasionally open up to amazing panoramic views. The trail winds along both sides of the ridge for miles. The trail flows back nicely, but doesn't get much use past the shuttling junction. In September the fall colors can be off the charts.

Trail gnomes have done a bunch of brush cutting as of Fall 2018- Thank them!

An O'Leary-Olallie big lollipop loop can be done by continuing out Olallie trail nearly to the end as an out and back. Some put this big 35 mile loop with the Olallie out and back and O'Leary-Castle ridge/descent as one of the top rides of all time.

Go big and do the big epic loop! Bring lots of food and water.

A cool historical side-note:
Many of these trails were built in the great depression. Thousands of young men were employed by the CCC and WPA to build recreational trails like this in the middle of nowhere. This was part of the economic stimulus to give people jobs during the depression. These jobs created much of the outdoor recreational backbone of the U.S. (Not only trails, but National Parks). These trails were all hand built nearly a century ago, long before mountain bikes. Be sure to check out the trail construction details as you ride along. There are hand stacked retaining walls and other features that are nearly a century old. Definitely worth a google search and reading a couple of historical articles to understand trails like this and the work that went into them.

So enjoy this amazing trail. No whining due to climb difficulty. Just think of the young men who swung picks and shovels 12 hours a day out here...

The Trailforks elevation is very off. It is an excessive climb to O’Leary trailhead. Do not expect 300m in 6kms, expect closer to 700m or 800m....
