The start of this trail near the suspension bridge at the North end of the lake is a rock garden for the first hundred meters or so of trail. Approaching the Pumphouse on McCombe lake, the trail no longer continues across the road. It has been blocked off and fallen to the forest. You'll have to take the forest service road back around the East side of McCombe and Buntzen Lake, or turn around and go back the way you came.
The Old Buntzen Lake Trail can be found at the North and of the lake, west of the suspension bridge. The trailhead is off the Buntzen Lake Trail which is for hikers only. It is a logical continuation from the Lakeview Trail to circumnavigate McCombe and Buntzen Lakes. Alternatively, you can access from the North West end of McCombe Lake for a gradual climb to Lakeview Trail southbound.
