After crossing a small bridge the trail turns into a steep climb up an old twotrack that doesn't let off until near the junction with Bison Mountain Trail. If going west, there is a confusing intersection when meeting road 4104, Go right on road, then after about 100ft go left up a narrow corridor that climbs steeply.
The last couple of miles of the West end are a nice cruise along the Continental Dive National Scenic Trail.
