The first purpose built mountain bike trail on the west coast provides riders with a mountain bike experience not found anywhere else in Tasmania. Oonah Hill starts with an easy 2km climb meandering through button grass plains sporting spectacular 360 degree views over the Heemskirk Range Regional Reserve and out to the wild Southern Ocean. From the summit riders will enjoy a 3km machine groomed flow track descent, increasing in speed as the trail descends with views over the Zeehan township and surrounds. While the trail is most suitably described as a 'Dark Green' it can be enjoyed by beginners through to advanced riders. Posted black directional arrows identify the trail at intersections. Once at the bottom, riders who did not shuttle will need to ride back out to Heemskirk Road and turn right at the intersection onto Trial Harbour Road and climb for 3km back to your car.

Access Info

From the Zeehan main street, head west towards the Trail Harbour intersection. Turn onto Trial Harbour Road and travel 2.9km. You will see a service road off to the right hand side and the signage for the trail start. If you don't intent on shuttling park here. For shuttles continue driving along the service road until you reach the crows nest at the summit.

Disclaimer

The area of Oonah Hill is categorised as an extreme hazard area due to open mine shafts and highly exposed sections of trail. Riders are advised to remain on the trail at all times.

The descent starts in an open button grass landscape before descending into dense tea tree forest. It flows so well and is a blast to ride. The quartzite surface takes a bit of getting used to but handles the wet weather well.

Very unique, open riding with expansive views before dropping into the “green room” and riding the white ribbon through the rainforest. Super fun, super quick transitions. A must ride trail. One of tassie’s finest

An absolute must do trail. A brilliant descent is the reward for a scenic climb to the top.

An amazing trail! With all the new upgrades, Oonah Hill in Zeehan Tasmania is a fantastic downhill descent.
The West Coast of Tasmania has some truly amazing rides. You need a good week to enjoy all the trails.

Great trail, wonderful ride ........ but I would be very careful in describing it as being able to be enjoyed by beginners.
