  • Global Ranking

The Paradise Flume is an uncovered flume operated by PG&E diverting water from the Feather River running along the edge of the canyon. Most of the flume is cement lined earth with a wide and easy dirt path along the side. However, many sections consist of a long 5ft wide metal open pipe bolted to the side of the canyon with a narrow cat-walk above the middle fo the pipe. This 'cat-walk' is roughly 12-18 inches wide and, in many sections, a fall off the flume would be very consequential. Riding this trail isn't necessarily difficult but can be high consequence, hence the advanced rating. However, walking the metal cat walk sections can make this more manageable. Note that this is a popular hiking trail with lots of traffic for swimming and cliff jumping destinations in the summer.

Access Info

Popular access points are Dean Rd or the Feather River Hospital. Park at the bottom of Dean Rd or park in the back lowest lot of the hospital and follow the singletrack down the hill until you run into the flume. The head diversion dam can be accessed by biking down Coutolenc Rd. The bottom of the Flume is accessed off of Kunkle Rsvr Rd.

Someone has actually died falling off of the flume on their bike, so heed the warnings. It's really mellow, just make sure you don't go off the edge.
