Track that runs from the Desert Rd, to the Pillars of Hercules gorge to Urchin Camping Ground which is also the start/or end of tree trunk gorge track.

Great fun downhill to the very impressive Gorge and rock formations of the Pillars.

NB: 12km is for there and back.

Access Info

From SH 1 (Desert Rd) heading south from Turangi 2 km's past Kaimanawa Rd. You come to a very sharp S bend in the road on the left is a small space bigger enough to park a car or 2. This is the top of the Pillars of Hercules track.

The 4wd road "mtb track" to SH1 have plentiful of branches hanging into the track. I recommend avoiding this section until cleared.
