Pyramid has long been a favorite of horse riders, and is becoming popular with mountain bikers. But because it is well off the beaten path of Highway 97, the mountain is largely a well-kept secret. For a challenging but not too strenuous summer or fall ride with spectacular vistas, head for Pyramid Mountain. Believed to be among the highest peaks in the state with a trail to the summit. At the end of the beautiful Entiat River valley north of Wenatchee, it’s a good bet you’ll be greeted by sunny Eastern Washington skies and golden alpine larches along the trail to Pyramid’s rocky top.
A World War II enemy airplane spotter cabin still teeters on the precipitous summit. Trees have overtaken the wide views once afforded to lookout personnel, but nearby ledges still offer breathtaking glimpses straight down to the lake and out across to Mount Storm King. Graced with a microclimate of mild temperatures and moderate precipitation, the trail to Pyramid Mountain melts out early,
This is a scenic high elevation trail. Horse feed and water are available along most of the entire route. There is a steep segment from Pyramid Viewpoint Trail #1441 to Pyramid Creek Trail #1439. The trail runs from Big Hill Road #5900 to Emerald Park Trail #1230.1 within Glacier Peak Wilderness. Rated MORE DIFFICULT for pack and saddle stock.
