Ricochet started life as the imaginatively named Downhill 3 (DH3 – the Black and Red runs being DH1 and DH2) and is one of the more beginner-friendly trails in the park, but still maintains a positively alpine feel. It’s a mix of constructed and natural, and was built with the developing downhill rider in mind; each element progressing down the track provides a new challenge.
While it is possible for most riders to navigate this trail slowly, if taken at the speeds encouraged by the large swooping turns the rewards can be great!
Ricochet is one of the faster trails at Aston Hill with big sweeping turns interspersed with natural rooty sections.
The top section is a great trail for beginner downhillers to progress their riding. A gentle slope heads through the woods with several small table-top jumps, before large sweeping turns lead into the lower section of the course.
Crossing the fireroad into the second half, things start to get steeper. While not as sheer as the Black Run, fast off-camber sections and rooty drops provide plenty of challenges, and tight switchbacks guide you into the finish.
Pinpoint accuracy over the multiple line choices will see you gracefully flowing like a Red Kite going in for the kill; but lose your concentration and you face ricocheting all the way to the bottom!

This trail is fun in all weathers. Aston is known to be crazy slippy in the winter but if you like sliding, its great fun.
