The trail is very steep for the first mile and switchbacks through stands of large ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, and meadows. After leveling temporarily, the trail gradually rises while following the creek through lodgepole pine and occasional wet meadows with willows then ends at Forest Road 517. The first mile provides panoramic views of the Poudre Canyon where bighorn sheep are often seen. Moose have been spotted in the upper meadows. Roaring Creek trailhead accommodates approximately 12 vehicles.
