Hey, xc/am rider visiting from Prince George. Description is great. Great hard uphills, two great view points, technical but not to scary downhills which are a mix of bare rock, soil and rubble. Never felt out of control on my tallboy 2, although I really would recommend a dropper. Kudos to the trail builder. The only input for us newbies is that its rather confusing near the bottom as to where to go, Additionally, there are a few trails that branch off of the main trail on the way up (although if you follow the rule of taking the hardest trail going up you will be fine).

Awesome trail - loved it!

Hopefully you found the new preferred exit (under the power lines) that doesn't use the driveway but instead flows into a jungle gully.

Yes I did - the trail descriptions were pretty clear on what to do. I took one wrong turn about 1/3 the way down and ended up at sone sort of look off - concrete foundation - turned around and went the right way. Also almost ran over a few triathletes at the bottom on the road.

Anyone into doing a 'trail-day' fix-up on that initial climb after the pond? Was speaking with a friend about a brush-out or minor reroute just this evening.

Am thinking that two weekends from now, say, the 3rd or 4th of Sept. will be cooler, which is always nice. Connect with me via the PM function of this site or call 250.486.2443

...and as for the bottom part of the Rock Oven trail and it's lack of markings -- The trail begins in Skaha Prov. Park, it very soon (sign-in book or so) transitions into general Crown land, passes through a block of Nature Trust Conservancy property, back into Crown, then into several different sections of stacked private property...

All in one short ride.

So... The alternate ascent that you saw to your right, just after the pond, and just after the right-hand junction down WARD1, was likely the bottom of Shin Skinner. It winds around the outside of the height of land and reconnects with the Rock Oven trail. It's a great new alternative - with some killer vistas and weird / great / 'All-Mountain" terrain.

BC Parks has deemed Shin Skinner and illegal trail and requested it removed from mapping.
