Preferred access route to the top of SchoolBus Trail via 503 road. Climb to the high point of Hobbit 3 from either direction. Look for unmarked but clearly traveled singletrack heading South. Wrap around the knoll on loose singletrack and drop into drainage with a super steep climb out to an old road grade. Stay left at the road grade and the trail will return to singletrack as you enter an open meadow. Keep climbing until you reach another old road grade and most times a creek crossing. Keep climbing the doubletrack and you'll quickly realize why roots is in the name. Keep climbing the strenuous rooty doubletrack until you come to a gravel road (503) and hang a right up the road. Stay left on the road until it ends at an old mine pit. SchoolBus trail will be on your left.
