The South Fork of Big Creek Highline Trail #078 is a single track trail that is designated for non-motorized use. It is a great trail for expert mountain bikers who like to climb and descend and appreciate "primitive" and remote trails. There will be some short sections of hike a bike on the climb due to steepness and rough scree-field crossings.
There are two major creek crossings and several minor ones. The first creek crossing is difficult or impossible early in the season due to high water, later in the summer expect either wet feet or to take off your shoes and wade.
The trail continues south up the drainage a couple more miles beyond the track shown and eventually ties in with the Snowbank Trail near the top of the drainage.
Access to the trailhead is via the Pahsimeroi River Road on the east side of the river, and the Big Creek Road #097. The Big Creek Road is between the sites of Patterson and Goldburg. This ride is quite remote.
