Sandy Wash is a trail in the OxBow Trail System, which is located on the west/northwest side of the Salt Creek in Ashland, NE, next to a crushed rock doubletrack trail. This 2.5 mile loop is ridden from the parking lot on 13th and Silver Street.
This trail was designed to be a relatively easy, beginner-friendly trail system that incorporates development of skills. It will teach tight navigation, rolling over obstacles and getting weight distribution down, and how to ride many different types of berms, step up's, kickers, jumps, and drops. If a feature cannot be ridden without jumping or hucking, there is always a ride around available. Given the minimal elevation changes, it is often up to the rider to determine what the right speed is for riding these features that suits their skill level. Some pedaling is required to attain this speed, but that gives those just learning how to jump the ability to dictate how fast they take a feature.
There are 45+ Technical Trail Features (TTF's) to keep everyone intrigued if you bring the family along. These TTF's litter the entire loop with varying difficult levels from Beginner to Expert. Test your skills on The Ridge, a ridgeline that runs above the doubletrack trail that weaves through the Sandy Wash trail. Between steep jaunts flirting with double digit grades, and short descents that mix in 2-4 foot drops/drop-ins, The Ridge provides the more experienced rider with an array of challenges. There is the Family Line that runs parallel to the Ridge, allowing riders to see one another while making the way back to the trail head (where a rider or two would opt into The Ridge line, and another rider or two chose the Family Line). This makes the trail more feasible to bring the family along given it's short distance overall.

***The TTF's involved in this trail should be studied prior to riding. It is recommended to ride the loop a time or two before riding some of the more advanced features available.
