Sheep Driveway Details
This is a route up to Driveway Butte that was traditionally used by sheep herders, driving flocks of sheep up to green pastures. The trail has officially been designated as "abandoned" for all hikers and equestrian use and finding the trail may be challenging. However, this is a ripe opportunity for those of you who do not mind a little navigation challenge and some primitive trail / open area riding! Take this historic trail back for those who enjoy peace and solitude on two wheels.
The terrain opens up to treeless alpine fields leaving numerous descending routes. Perhaps most beautiful in spring time.
The trip to the top can be dry in the middle of the summer season, but the views are well worth the work. Silver Star and the Early Winters area are among the many views from the summit, which was once a lookout tower site. Melts out early in the season giving access to beautiful wildflowers and high elevation rugged mountain views before other trails are snowfree.
