Trail typeRail Trail
The Similkameen Rail Trail (aka Burlington Northern Rail Trail, Great Northern Railroad) enters Canada at Chopaka in the Similkameen Valley. It has been modified to become a multi-use path and ultimately connects with the KVR in Princeton (no continuous trail to Princeton yet).
In its current form, the trail allows bikers to travel between Keremeos and Cawston with only a small portion on the highway. The western end starts at the Red Bridge. The trail passes through orchards, the town of Keremeos, and comes out on the highway for a short stretch before finishing up through fields leading into Cawston. The section of trail directly west of the road segment is less traveled and a bit overgrown with grass. Cyclists can push through it or jump on to the road by way of an orchard slightly before.
Watch out for poison ivy at the eastern end of the trail out of Keremeos before it reaches the road.
