Slate Canyon Loop Trail begins at the mouth of Slate Canyon and connects to Slide Canyon to the north. The complete loop is about 8.4 miles but the trail makes a great out and back trail for Slate Canyon or Slide Canyon (connects to the famous "Y" hiking trail).

This trail is better suited for hiking but if you are hardcore this is a great trail for you. Slate Canyon is a lower traffic area and will provide excellent views of the valley.

Very Rocky, but way fun. When you get about halfway up it starts to get a little snowy, but isnt that bad.

Really rocky and dry at the bottom. Once you pass the stream it is more dirt with grass and trees. A few logs in the path so be careful one...

A lot of loose big rocks. Very steep.

This trail is extremely steep. It's a bunch of loose rocks, but it is very pretty and the trail is wide. Most trails have a steep section and then it flattens out a little bit, but the steepness just keeps coming on this trail. It's a difficult ride.

I rode this a year ago on an all mountain bike with slack geometry and it was not a very enjoyable ride. I went back this year with a trail bike with more cross country geometry and plus tires, and it was much more enjoyable. Still a very steep climb but if you have the stamina and a good XC bike, I highly recommend this trail.

The way down can be sketchy, it is loose and roughly a 20% grade the whole time, so drop your seat out of the way and get ready to ride your front brake!
