This Trail Open to Hiker, Biker and Equestrian Use.
Mountain bikes can only be used from the trailhead up to the junction of Pineway Trail #71.

This trail climbs through open pine forests and across rocky slopes along the Aiken Lava Bed and through the remains of the 2008 burn. It meets Pineway Trail #71, then continues another 2.75 miles to the junction with Round the Mountain Trail in high mountain meadows.

Along this lightly used trails are the A.G. Aiken Lava Bed and meadows. The A.G. Aiken Lava Bed is 4-miles long and approximately one-half mile wide. The lava bed was formed by an eruption of Mt. Adams approximately 4,000 years ago.

The historic Gotchen Guard Station is located on Spur Road 160 in the vicinity of the trailhead.

Access Info

Wilderness Permit required if entering Mt. Adams Wilderness. Free self-issue Wilderness Permit available at trailhead.

From Trout Lake, WA take Mt. Adams Highway north to the intersection with Forest Road 23. At this intersection stay right. Continue driving to the forest boundary where the road becomes Forest Road 82. Stay on Forest Road 82 to the junction with Forest Road 8225 at Pineside Sno-Park. Take a left onto Forest Road 8225 and go to the three way intersection. At this intersection take Spur Road 150, the middle road, and continue to the trailhead.


This trail is maintained by the US Forest Service. Check with the USFS/Gifford Pinchot National Forest for the latest trail status.
