This (mostly) flat trail follows the old Sterling Mine Ditch. The trail mainly runs along the ditch levee, but occasionally dips into the ditch. There are two locations where the trail leaves the ditch and climbs up and around private property. At its eastern end, the trail descends to the Little Applegate Trailhead. The majority of the trail is fairly level. The trail surface is mostly smooth with only a few rocks. The area is mixed forest with lots of meadow areas. Many spots along this trail offer excellent views of the surrounding mountains as well as the Upper Applegate valley. There are 4 side trails off of the main trail that lead to trailheads. These side trails make nice out-and-backs in order to gain additional elevation.
The western end of the trail is accessed at the Deming Trailhead. The eastern end of the trail is at the Little Applegate Trailhead. More detailed directions to the trailhead are in the 'Directions' link
