The first section of this trail is nice packed dirt/rooty singletrack that winds through thick forest - alot of fun. But the rest of the trail, the majority of this length, is gravel/sand doubletrack. There is some up and down but it's pretty mild. Perfectly acceptable for beginners. If you plan to ride the entire Lake Border Trail (all of Blue Marsh), this is one of the best places to start.
Stilling Basin parking lot (the back lot, at the base of the dam)...ride over the spillway to the trailhead at the entry to the forest.
