 The 'straight down orchids' is a combination of two tracks;
GOAT Track - this is the steep short cut section that links the top and base end of Orchid track. (Orchid actually goes from near the top of the rob Roy hil climb down to the herring bone sticks).
Goat was named Goat because you Needed to be a mountain goat to climb the now eliminated base section. The original base part was a rutted track (now completely rehabilitated and covered over) that was almost impossible to climb., even in the day time.
RETRENCHMENT Track is the lower section, starting just downhill from the herringbone sticks to the gully where the fence line starts. It was put in to bypass the steep Goat Track.
