This trail was completed after the 2007 Angora Fire and was renamed in 2018 to "Tahoe Mountain Trail." The trail is largely in open tree-less areas with great mountain view and lake views at the top. The trail surface is mostly decomposed granite on the lower sections and increasingly rocky on the upper sections. During very dry periods parts of the trail can become loose. There are no technical sections and no added features, but the lack of tree cover and southern aspect means this is the first trail to melt out in spring. Fun as an out and back or loop into Northside and Valley View.
Access Info
Lower access is officially west off Tahoe Mountain Road immediately across from Forest Mountain Drive where there is parking for a few cars. However, access is also possible off the paved bike trail across from Sawmill Rd...follow the paved path a few hundred feet to a distinct right hand turn. Continue straight on a dirt/gravel road for another couple hundred feet. Look for a single track trail to take off to the right.
The upper trailhead is at the intersection of Valley View and Tahoe Mountain trails.
