This is a HIKING TRAIL ONLY. It is not suitable for biking.
Beautiful hike above Island Lake Lodge, Fernie. Upon reaching the summit, hikers are rewarded with one of the best views of the Lizard Range and Island Lake.
The trail winds its way up the southwest slopes of Mount Fernie through beautiful stands of mature Larch, with an option part way to go to the stunning viewpoint. The trail continues up through open, grassy slopes to the dramatic rock crags of Mount Fernie.
5 hours, out and back.
Drive out of Fernie heading South (Cranbrook direction) for 3km to Mt Fernie Provincial Park. Turn right in to the park and head up the Island Lake Road for 9km from the highway, following signs to Island Lake Lodge. Park at the Lodge and you can go in and ask for a trail map.
From the trail head below the Bear Lodge head east following signs for the Tamarack Trail.
