Year Opened2012
The Rainbow Mountain Trail is a mix of rock and native bush - magnificent - and the views from the top are sensational.
Well worth the steep and technical climb up (Te Tihi O Ruru) - and so is the grade 4 downhill that follows (Te RangaTrail) that will thrill and challenge your skills.
Kersosene Creek is close and so you can wallow in a hot pool at the end of the ride.
Access Info
Rainbow Mountain lies 26 km south-east of Rotorua, beside SH 5 (the Rotorua-Taupo highway). Approaching from Rotorua the carpark is situated just past the turnoff for SH 38 (the Murupara/ Waikeremoana highway), on the left-hand side of the road.

Highly recommend riding this trail if you are in Rotorua. The climb up sucks in spots but it's absolutely worth it. First half of the trail is dark blue tech and the second part is just flowy goodness. Dirt was also still tasty even though everywhere else in town was dry and dusty.
