The Dewdney Trail Details
NOTE: Upper Dewdney received significant remediation and re-routing in the fall of 2016 and will now be riding better than ever.
The Dewdney trail was originally built nearly 150 years ago, and although the current route utilizes only small sections of the original prospector route, the historic character of the trail is difficult to escape. Today, the KCTS maintains and manages the Dewdney into a super fast and flowy downhill, that will entertain and thrill riders of most abilities. The corridor is wide and open, with many small hits and bermed turns to excite the freeriders and downhillers. In other sections, the trail is eroded and loose, wet at times but always engaging as it rolls and descends for over 5 km to Highway 22 near Paterson and the US/Canada border.
The original Dewdney Trail was a 700 km long, all-Canadian route along the southern border of the newly established colony of British Columbia. It linked the town of Hope in the Fraser Valley to the goldfields near Fort Steele in the East Kootenay and was built in 1865. Today, the Dewdney is more popular with riders of the Seven Summits trail, who use Dewdney to finish their epic ride.
