Named after an old mining water race that runs along part of the trail. The water race is thought to be a section of the historic Briseis Water Race, built in 1900 to bring water from far away, across valleys and mountains, for the purpose of tin mining. Featuring some sections of old school, hand-cut single track and skinny high waisted historic stone ledges, this track consists of mostly climbing yet gentle sections of unique boulder slabbed technical trail. The Great Race is an important link to the Cascade Dam and the longer and adventurous Dam Busters trail.
