Land OwnerUSFS
The Grinder is a difficult trail that contains a mix of old-school hand built Galena singletrack and new-school machine-built singletrack. Certain sections are very fun to ride on a bike and other sections will make you question why you like biking.
It is recommended that bikers ride the west section of the Grinder from FSR 189 to Psycho Ridge for the most enjoyment. This section contains some of the most technical riding at Galena. The Grinder can also be used to access Mineshaft via Horsefly Hill.
Like all of the singletrack trails at Galena, the Grinder Trail is open to two-way traffic and shared use by hikers, horseback riders, runners, and bicyclists. Watch for and yield to others - on this and all trails. All Galena singletrack trails are closed to E-Bikes.
Access Info
Access from Horsefly Hill, FSR 189, Psycho Ridge, Mineshaft.
Disclaimer
The USFS has implemented the Big Wood Travel Plan which includes decommissioning many old mining roads in the area.
Adaptive Bike Info
Old-school hand-built singletrack between Horsefly Hill and FSR 189 poses significant challenges like off camber sections, skinny singletrack and steep bench-cut sections.
The new-school section of the trail from FSR 189 to Psycho Ridge offers a wider trail width but poses challenges in the form of frequent trail obstacles like rock gardens.
