Nestled behind the Aledo Community Center, a formerly-derelict piece of property is born anew as a bicycle skills area. From the young to the old, from the novice to the enthusiast, the Pit has something for everyone. It's part pump track and part singletrack mini loop with lots of obstacles to jib in between. What's a jib? That's when you pick an obstacle and session it with your friends until your belly is full of joy! How else are you going to pull off that fakie nose manual to back wheel pivot? Practice, perseverance, and peer pressure!! Rollers, berms, rock gardens, wooden bridges, abound. There are probably a few hidden features that only young eyes or the young at heart will discover. Be mindful that the skills area can be busy with riders. Follow the flow of traffic and don't be that horse--you know, the jerk who ruins everyone's fun.
The singletrack mini loop hugs the creek before traversing up a rock face. It's loose and sandy in spots, so keep those eyes forward. There are even a couple of wooden features and a tight-bermed corner. Bonus perk--the skills area is always in sight. The mini loop is perfect for little ones and those uncertain about the whole off-road bicycle concept to build confidence before heading over to the Parks of Aledo/Bluffs or Quanah Hill.
Be sure to check in at the trailhead/skills area kiosk to familiarize yourself with the Pit.
