 So wet and muddy in one large section that you could not ride it. Not sure if I took the right line into the start of the trail either. Not sure if I will bother going back.

 The photos above help, theres a gap in the hedge on the right you go through and turn left, you should go round the left of a pit normally full of dumped waste and up the other side.
This brings you out on the right of the pic with the stream.
Then it's the flowly narrow trail which is good fun in the dry and then the bogs, which you're right, are nearly impassable when wet.
Heck it hardly clears in the summer, but it does get you down to Illogan with the minimum of roads.

Looking at your trail you missed the gap but then turned back and found it, but didn't turn left and carried on down to the river.
Doesn't change much but the river path is very narrow and not as easy as the left side of the pit

 Thanks fella! I will have to give it another go when things dry out a little more. I do like it down there, spent loads of time down there as a kid!
