Towai is a flattish trail traversing the eastern side of the hill in the park. It is a real mix of tight turns, rooty climbs, roller coaster type sections and gentle riding through native bush. Early morning riders clear the many spider webs that form over night. During winter and very wet periods it does become boggy due to it's shelter from both the sun and wind.

Access Info

Towai is a 2 way track. The upward entry is at the end of Labyrinth (which can be access from the 3rd pylon off ECNZ 4x4 access road). The downward entry is accessed from the ECNZ 4x4 access road - keep riding past the entry to Freewheel.

Towai can be a nice trail to get up to Freewheel. The end of Freewheel has the option of connecting back to Labyrinth, Beeline or exit on to the summit of Wainuiomata Hill Road.

Track in great condition, probably due to lack of rain.

More mud wrestling than riding on Sunday. Probably not much better today. The labyrinth end is all good though. Just gnarly in the middle.

The Wainui map board rates this as Intermediate, but very few riders could do the entire track without walking or stopping for at least some of it so it is definitely Advanced. This is because it is very tight with a number of very tricky root obstacles. Trials skills would not hurt!

Disagree with below comment. Yes there is a couple of root obstacles along the track but they are definitely able to be navigated with practice. I have only been riding for 5 months and can do.this track without hopping off bike.
