This is a good subalpine trail that traverses through a couple of lake basins and then abruptly shoots you up to the pass that enters McKim Creek. This trail takes you right by the two Upper Bear Valley Lakes, which are in themselves a great alpine destination. Go up the switchbacks to the pass for an amazing alpine view and then turn around for a hairy descent back down to the lakes. This trail continues down into McKim Creek, but if you continue west from the pass you better have a car on the Salmon River side or you'll have to grunt it back up to the pass and back to the parking at the Bear Valley Creek Trailhead.
