The Waterline Trail is the flattest trail in Helena, as it runs along the grade of an old water supply line. The grade slopes very slightly to the north, towards town. It is a favorite with beginner riders, walkers, and trail runners.

I took this as a easy way back to the car after a long ride and really enjoyed it. The grade is barely downhill, so you pedal most of the way, but you've mostly got good views and straight trail that you can cruise down. I wouldn't expect anything great, but if you want a chill cruise back down the hill, it's not bad.

I was told this is the easiest trail near town and that is likely true, but just bear in mind, if you have any fear of heights, which may affect only a small portion of mountain bikers, this has a significant drop off the side. I’m a newbie and it scared me a bit.
