This trail was partly constructed by pioneer trail maker J.Rayner Edmands; as was Edmands' practice, many segments are paved with carefully placed stones. The trail is wholley above timberline, very much exposed to the prevailing west and northwest winds. As a shortcut between Gulfside Trail and Crawford Path that avoids the summit of Mt. Washington, it saves about 0.7mi. in distance and 600 ft. in elevation between objective in the Northern and Southern Presidentials. Westside Trail diverges left from Crawford Path at the point where the latter path begins to climb the steep part of the cone of Mt. Washington. Westside Trail skirts the cone, climbing for 0.6 mi. at an easy grade, then descends moderately passes under the tracks of the Mt. Washington Cog Railway, and sson ends at Gulfside Trail.
