The mission of the DeKalb County Forest Preserve District is to acquire lands in order to preserve, protect, restore and restock the flora, the fauna and the natural beauties of such lands, in their natural state and condition, for the education and recreation of our citizens.
We live in a thriving agricultural community that was, 160 years ago, an ocean of prairie grass, with scattered islands of woods and oak savannah’s. These preserves serve as small living museums that give us the opportunity to study and reflect on the past, add serenity and beauty to our present, offer many recreational and educational opportunities and plan thoughtfully for the future.
