Berry College in Rome, Georgia offers one of the most unusual mountain bike destinations in the Southeast: a vast, multi-use trail network spread across the world’s largest contiguous college campus, encompassing roughly 27,000 acres of forests, ridgelines, reservoirs, old farm roads, and managed wilderness. Riders will find a blend of gravel roads, jeep roads, old doubletrack, and natural singletrack, with a distinctly backcountry feel rather than a purpose-built bike park. The terrain is characterized by long sustained climbs, rolling forest roads, steep punchy descents, creek crossings, and scenic overlooks, particularly around Lavender Mountain and the Mountain Campus. Berry reports over 80 miles of trails across campus lands.

For mountain bikers, the network rides more like an interconnected exploration system than a trail center. Popular riding corridors include Old High School Road, Possum Trot Road, CCC Road, O’Bryan Gap, Longleaf Trail, and routes toward House o’ Dreams and the reservoir areas. Much of the mileage consists of fast dirt and gravel roads ideal for XC, marathon training, bikepacking-style rides, and big mixed-surface loops, with pockets of narrower, more technical trail. Expect elevation changes and extended climbing uncommon for Georgia outside the Appalachians.
