Description:
I rode from Ice Harbor Dam to the southernmost trestle bridge. Major takeaways were that:
1) Maps provided at trailheads could be misleading from a quick glance - the map contains numerous trailheads, many of which do not exist yet. (They are marked by discreet stars that say “proposed.”) These locations do NOT provide trail access.
2) The southmost 15 miles of the trail is maintained like a dream. This is the section between Ice Harbor Dam and Snake River Junction.
3) The trail north of Snake River Junction is loose ballast with several large rock falls, many small rock falls, and plantlife growing up through the trail. Rideable for short stretches, but more hiking than biking.
4) At the first trestle bridge north of Snake River Junction, entrance to the bridge is blocked by a fence and there is no way around (drop-off on the right, barbed wire on the left).
