Description:
Update from the Gifford Pinchot- We would like to remind visitors to the forest to always check current conditions for your destination, and the roads getting there, before heading out. *Though much of the forest has reopened, closures to some sites and roads are still in effect for your safety. The current closure includes the popular Siouxon Trail #130 as well as Forest Road 5701 leading up to it.

⚠️When the Big Hollow Fire burned through the Siouxon Trail area, the roots of many trees were also burned. These roots can no longer hold the standing trees upright and in place, so the trail, parking area, and road are not safe to be on. The Burn Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team reported that during a recent visit to the Siouxon area, they heard trees falling around them every few minutes!

Due to ongoing hazards - (falling trees and limbs, uneven/unstable ground full of holes from burned root systems, difficulty navigating + possible landslides etc.) - along with ongoing rehabilitation work, this current closure area is likely to stay in place until next Spring or longer. We will continue to keep our website as up to date as possible with current closures, and visitors may call our Fire Information Line Monday-Friday at (360) 335-7647.
