Description:
It's a rugged point-to-point trail, with mud, rocks, and roots to scramble over. The elevation changes are mild, though. Bring a hiking stick and first aid kit. Except for the trailheads, I saw exactly 2 people. The jungle plants are all the company you’ll need. Quite possibly the most beautiful 12 miles (including approach/exit) I've ever done.

You’ll need to car shuttle if you want to do the whole thing. I did it on a whim and had to hike 1.5 miles out to a main road for a better chance to get an Uber back to the trailhead, and the drivers all work Honolulu on the other side of the island. But after an hour I got lucky because someone had a dropoff nearby (thanks, universe!). In the meantime, I enjoyed a fantastic bubble tea at Dave’s Ice Cream in Waimanalo. *100 percent worth it.*
