Description:
The McDonald Creek Trail, located on Montana Mountain (Carcross, Yukon), willbe marked as closed for the season starting on October 1, 2024. This decision follows feedback from Carcross/Tagish First Nation (C/TFN)Executive Council members, who expressed the need to reduce traffic in this important wildlife habitat area during the fall season. The trails in and around Carcross are treasured by both locals and visitors. In making this request to avoid late fall use of the McDonald Creek Trail, we aim to support a future where our trails, community, and natural environment can coexist in harmony. This seasonal closure is part of ongoing efforts to prioritize environmental conservation while still providing opportunities for outdoor recreation. We are inspired by the work of the Carcross/Tagish Renewable ResourcesCouncil and C/TFN in requesting users to avoid accessing sensitive areas at certain times of the year. A good example is the seasonal restrictions placed onthe lambing grounds on Nares, Caribou, and Montana Mountains. Their example has guided us as we take these steps to protect the valuable ecosystems surrounding MacDonald Creek
