From MSF Facebook page: Weather permitting, we will be burning in the area of Irishtown Gap and Buck Ridge Trail today, October 21, 2024. While the burn is currently scheduled for today, it may be pushed to tomorrow, depending on conditions. During this time, we ask that forest visitors obey all signage regarding temporary closures in the area.
This smaller burn is in preparation for a larger burn to be held in the coming weeks in the same area. As with any prescribed fire, weather and fuel conditions are deciding factors of whether a burn will take place, so further information regarding the next phase of the burn will be released closer to the day of the burn.
We recognize that the timing may not be ideal for some forest user activities, however we have a very narrow window during the year when temperature, wind, and humidity conditions permit us to safely meet the goals of a prescribed burn. For the Irishtown Gap prescribed fire, a priority goal is to promote desirable regeneration and establish early successional habitat patches for disturbance dependent species such as ruffed grouse.
