Description:
Rode Dec 28th 2025. Crusty snow patches in shaded aspects from Shannon Campground until about 1 mile below the Heliograph Jct. Trail is in great shape but it's bittersweet because if we were having a normal winter it would be impassible with snow. Thankfully there has been moisture in the form of rain with very high freezing elevation levels. So the earth does have noticeable moisture in it freezing and thawing. There's enough rock in the trail to offset the freeze thaw/mud impact.

This report is relevant to a low snow early winter not the norm. Call the Safford USFS Ranger station for the latest observations.
