Apr 19, 2026 Arnold Ice Cave Trail Report

Drove in through Milican Valley to ride this since I was missing getting lost in the woods in this part of the forest. Parked at Arnold Ice Cave. Trail is free of deadfall for the most part, but in the absence of regular two wheel traffic the freeze/thaw has loosened the tread; it felt like I was pushing the wheels through sand the whole time. In other places motos have taken over the network, lots of erosion and rutting in the steep parts. The longer the Forest Service chooses to restrict access, the longer the throttle crowd will feel like it's a free for all out here since the only access is via Ford Road or going around Horse Ridge which seems too far for the MTB crowd.
